Having used Reflective Learning with their Grade 8s in 2021, University of Johannesburg Metropolitan Academy (UJMA) ran it again with their incoming group in 2022. They provided one period per week for students and were able to start at the beginning of the year, resulting in an outstanding amount of growth across all topics of Maths.
When we look at the rate of learning, a large proportion of students managed to accelerate their learning (29% have doubled their rate of learning or more).
These improvements were reflected in their increased school marks also. Over the course of the two years, there was a significant rise in quality passes from 2020 to 2021 (58% to 68%) and the average of students increased by 9%. This was not only largely sustained over 2022, but the school saw a further increase (68% to 80%) in quality passes.

Like when we ask questions in the classroom, there are learners who are ahead with Reflective Learning concepts, you find them answering the question and they’d be like ‘there was something similar in Reflective Learning’ and we see now how it’s answered.”
